The association in collaboration with the local NGO « I Love Africa » has built sanitary facilities in the village of Jam City. The NGO has financed the construction of a few sanitary facilities and the association has been responsible for financing the costs of transmitting the electricity needed to access water, which is essential for preserving children’s health and growth. Yet too many children can not drink clean water, wash their hands with soap, or have toilets. The association encourages all children to have access to safe water and adopt the right hygiene measures.
Water for toilet remediation will help prevent diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases for the 3,500 inhabitants of Jam City.
Drilling / piping has been done, water arrives at the village and at the center by the traditional power supplied by Kenya Power & Lighting Corporation
An installation of a photovoltaic plant for pumping water is composed of the following elements:
• Solar panels (photovoltaics), to capture the energy of the sun and convert it into electricity.
• A controller, for transmitting and converting the three-phase DC current from the panels to the pump, controls the water levels in the well and in the tank.
• A solar waterpump, to draw water using a minimum of energy that is provided by the panels.• Batteries store energy during the day, to provide energy after sunset.
A charge controller manages the device according to the state of charge of the batteries and the power consumption of the devices used. The charge controller plays a key role in the proper functioning of the solar system in isolated areas.
