Special Education teaching material for disabled children
Here is the message of the founder of Sri Arunodayam, Mr Iyyappan Subramaniyan :
“Our children live with a wide variety of mental, emotional, physical, and learning disabilities. The 0-6 year period in a child’s life – known as the ‘formative period’ – is an absolutely crucial time for all children, more especially those with learning disabilities. We have designed specialized Early Intervention programs for those at risk of development delay, which meets a child’s needs in 5 developmental areas – (1) physical, (2) cognitive, (3) communication, (4) social and emotional, and (5) sensory and adaptive.
Each day, special educators teach the children individually and in groups. The training includes helping them reach individual goals and helping them become more articulate, mobile and self-reliant. Each child’s performance is assessed at the end of a quarter and new goals are set for them to reach.
For our educators to do a really good job, they need teaching aids and materials that are customized to the needs of special children. Classroom challenges being different to general education classrooms, they need teaching aids like therapy balls, therapy bands, highlighter strips or reader trackers, colored sand and clay, visual supports and flash cards, hands-on manipulatives and molded toys, shapes and designs, charts and books, paints and colors, jigsaw puzzles, and a whole lot more!”
Besix Foundation and Me
BESIX Foundation is a private foundation set up by the Belgian building group BESIX
I submitted their request of material to Besix Foundation, a Belgian sponsor who accepted to finance with this one, three other projects.
I represented this foundation at the center and inaugurate all new education teaching material on their behalf.
As soon as I was back from India, I give them all the feedback (pics, videos, bills).
Like other sponsors, this foundation too as its rules and one of them is that they do not finance the travel expenses. As I was already in India, I just had to buy in extra my tkt Delhi to Chennai.
This is nothing compared to the happiness I experienced on the spot, around these children, teachers thanking me and Besix Foundation for our contribution.
