Physiotherapy Equipment
About the center
Sri Arunodayam is a home for mentally challenged children who have been abandoned by their parents. Rescued by the Department of Social Welfare, the police and Child helpline, they are sent to Sri Arunodayam center, where they are nurtured, rehabilitated and at times, restored to repentant parents.
I have been there for the first time in 2015 and donated two wheelchairs. This moment of sharing love & care is memorable. I got so much love from the kids, respect from the staff that I am unable to express it just show by tears who automatically came out when few of the kids took me in their little arms, hug me and give me a kiss me.
That was the most beautiful gift that I can have… Usually I never came back at the same place for a social project, just because I want to help different centers but when I came out from this center, I decided that I will definitely come back here again.
To get back this great feeling, I decided to know more about their needs.
In 2018, they were in need of three wheelchairs, a solar water heater, physio machines. I will develop each point in different parts. Let’s talk here about the physiotherapy equipment.
The situation : see video below
The center is in need of highly specialized physiotherapy equipment.

By sponsoring such equipment, the children’s convalescence will become more bearable and pleasant. Stimulation equipment helps in blocking and managing pain while reducing the swelling and inflammation that causes the pain. Pain is such an integral part of these children’s lives that anything we can do to help them overcome and return to normal, is of critical importance. The benefits are not restricted to pain management alone, but can result in better blood circulation which will positively impact the immune system and the overall well being of the children.
These include:
(1) Interferential Therapy (IFT): an effective therapy to relieve pain and accelerate the self-healing process.
(2) An Electrical Muscle Stimulator (EMS): which helps elicit muscle contraction using electric impulses. It is used as a strength training tool and a rehabilitation and preventive tool for partially or totally immobilized patients.
(3) Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nurse Stimulator (TENS) : a nerve stimulator that uses electric current to stimulate the nerves for therapeutic purposes.
(4) Ultrasound imaging equipment to identify target nerves
(5) Splints and orthotics to help modify body structure imbalances.
Before to response to their need, I make sure that
– they were having the place to keep the equipment,
– the equipment will be only use for the children’s treatment ( no external use, commercial use)
– the equipment will be stored at the center it self
– they have physiotherapist

Once I got all the information, I contacted my cousins in Australia. Harry and Hemani are my aunty’s ( father’ sister ) children. living so far but very close to my heart…They have always encouraged me in my social work. In fact they are the real founders of CheerUp foundation. Without Harry’s motivation to publish all my social work this foundation would’nt exist. They always wanted to contribute for one of my projects and this one was the right project for them ! I messaged them and without any hesitation they agreed… Thank u for your love & trust !
Special thanks to Harry and Hemani and their family from Australia
I shared their need with my cousins living in Australia who didn’t hesitate a minute and were glad to sponsor all the equipment.
I went to Chennai, represented them at the center and inaugurate the physiotherapy equipment on their behalf. I was missing them so much that time and at the same time I was sending them all my blessings from there.
Here is the beautiful message sent by the staff members to them: see this video below

Directly after the inauguration, the physiotherapist installed the machines and show me how useful is it for the kids treatment.
Here is the demonstration : see the video below

As soon as I was back, I sent them the bill of supplier, the donation receipt and send them the videos….
Thank u so much Harry & Hemani for your trust, for your contribution !!
When I saw a child unable to stand ( see video), who has to lie all day on the floor, suffering of legs pain and having a beautiful smile on the face, no more place for complains in my life !I just close my eyes and remember that smiling face, and I get energy !
Many people use to say we don’t like to visit orphanages, or disabled centers because it hurts us to see them suffering.Yes, it hurts us but you will learn in having more patience, not to complain, and get energy to face your own problems, it makes you mentally strong…who knows the future ? and at the same time by visiting them, offering them your smile, your hug, your kiss you make them feel that they are not abandoned, you make them feel that they still exists, have their place in the world, World is what ? it’s you,me, others….
Here is another mission completed, the donation at the right place by the right sponsor and for a great purpose !
